Introduction to Wheel-Throwing Thursday 6:00 pm–8:30 pm / 6 sessions Starting October 31
Rock Clay welcomes you to an Introduction to Wheel-Throwing class on Thursday evenings with Kate Poland Hetman.
Kate will teach you how to turn a simple ball of clay into a functional object on the potters’ wheel. She will also teach you how to bisque, decorate, and glaze your pieces.
This class is perfect for beginners but is open to all levels.
Kate is currently a full-time visual arts teacher at Fort Lee High School. She has taught various levels of ceramics for more than 20 years and has been making ceramic work since she was fifteen years old. Kate received her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts degree from St. Olaf College, a Master’s of Education in Art Ed. from the University of St. Catherine, and a Master’s of Professional Studies in Humanistic and Multicultural Issues from SUNY New Paltz.
Kate enjoys teaching clay as it allows her to try new methods and techniques of working with clay and share her love of clay with others. Kate is a member of the NJ Potters’ Guild and Hudson River Potters. Her work has been exhibited and sold nationally.
In addition to class time, students have access to the studio to come in and practice for the duration of the course. Clay and glazes are included. Firing fees are charged separately: $0.05 per cubic. Sales tax not included.
While we do not officially offer make-up classes you are welcome to join one of the other classes if there is room.
Cancellation with a full refund is allowed up until a week before the class starts and a 50% refund if canceled the week of the start of class.
There are no refunds once the class session has started.
This class is open to all aged 13 years old and up.
Thursdays from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm starting on October 31 – December 12, 2024
